3hrs of study treacle or 10mins watching a video tutorial?
Would you rather simple explanations and captivating stories, learning as if by magic?
The CII R08 exam study text will be out very soon. And it won’t disappoint you. It will be a fabulous technical reference manual, crammed full of the useful (and not so useful). It’ll have lots of relevant material (and plenty that will never see the light of day).
There are many who wouldn’t describe it as captivating or an illuminating learning experience.
Whilst it’s technical credentials are without doubt; will it help you personally learn in a style that suits you, learn quicker and more effectively? Do you want to spend 3hrs in treacle (or 10mins with an illuminating video tutorial)?
I’m very sure the CII R08 manual is not designed as a tool to help you learn better or learn quicker.
In fact, I’m going to say the same about the AF3 exam case study book. That case study book is a wonderful thing. A thing of beauty. But, I’d say 90% of the people who contact me don’t understand a word; they don’t know where to start and they are in complete shock at the level of support offered alongside it.
You need to have a lot of understanding to get the best out of the AF3 case study book and that’s why I recommend using it at the end of your studies, not the start.
It’s well understood that the way to learn best is using all your faculties (listen, watch and read); to do it regularly in small chucks (with small sections, small videos), share it with others (student forum), regularly test yourself (quiz) and work through practical case studies (workbook). It’s even more effective when you have expert tutor support and teaching all the way through the process (revision workshops).
And you have that choice. You can make the choice of the CII or expertpensions.

They may have got you to take another manual (without any choice in the matter), but it doesn’t mean you are stuck in treacle.
