PCIAM [Private Client Investment & Advice Management]

The stand-alone Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management is specifically aimed at existing authorised advisers and is listed by the FCA as an appropriate examination for:
*Advising on and dealing in Securities (including advising only)
*Advising on and dealing in Derivatives (including advising only)

As a level 6 qualification, PCIAM enables holders to seek personal chartered status at the CISI, but you start life with the designatory letters MCIS.

MOST importantly, it gives 30 (unspecified) credits at AF level for members of CII seeking to become Chartered Financial planners – in other words, it is one less AF paper you need to take on your journey to Chartered status. And, since it is predominately made up from work most financial advisers will have done or are doing with their AF studies (alongside some level 4 reading from R01), it’s a good place to get another 30 credits for not much more work (and that is always worth thinking about). The exam is on 23 June and on 8 Dec 2016; it’s one worth trying if you want to use the study your have already put into your exams in either pensions, taxation or investments.

It’s a great exam for current financial advisers to attempt. It is designed to enable existing practitioners to demonstrate their broad understanding of the principles of investment advice (investment, pensions and tax), within the context of the current regulatory and economic environment. This is a very practical exam. You will be required to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge; it’s something you do daily.

The exam is 3 hrs long; 1hr for section A [ten compulsory short answer questions (40% of the marks)], 30 minutes for section B [one essay from a choice of three (20%)] and 1hr for section C [one compulsory question based on a case study (40%)] ; leaving you plenty time in this exam.
