I’ve stopped doing any calcs as I am happy with those so I’m just covering all the little bits that might come up such as residency tests, bankruptcy rules, POA, trustee duties etc. Definitely at the point where I can’t wait for Monday to be over now.

Which bits are you falling down on?

Same here David – hoping i will be fine on the calcs side of things now.

Residency is a nightmare, nothing sticks so going to have flashcard to read just before go into the exam and hope it sticks in my short term memory!

I seem to remember everything about certain areas and then nothing on others its so bizarre! Going to try and make up so acronyms for some areas such as bankruptcy/Trustees

I’m always impressed with people who use flashcards. Hope they are multicoloured hehe.

There’s a few things I decided to just ignore like the requirements to be an EIS/VCT provider. I remember a few of the requirements but there is just simply no need to know this in the real world and given there is so much to learn I felt my time would be better served elsewhere.

My view is the pass rate is 55% and I’m pretty confident I can achieve this. Just hope there are no awful curve ball questions.

Where are you guys doing the exam? i’m in Gloucester.

It is areas such as qualifying criteria for VCT/EIS/REITs, but also dates eg submission of tax returns, trust tax returns etc. Likewise residency is a nightmare, plus mental block on how to classify vulnerable beneficiaries. If I get a non U.K. resident setting up a trust for a vulnerable beneficiary then I’m stuffed ?

I think I am fine on the calcs too but I like doing them as it gives me a confidence boost!

    I’m sitting it in Edinburgh

    Yeah same here!

I have done quite a few past papers and some I pass easily and some I marginal fail – all seems to depend on some curve ball questions. Fingers crossed for us all!

I’m sitting in Chelmsford which is nice and it’s only a 10 min drive from me

    Hi all,

I agree with David I will be happy when Monday is over with now, I think I have learnt all I am going to be able to learn before Monday and appear to now just be looking over notes and reading and rereading certain areas like Vct/eis/seis/residency rules/business relief/investors relief and doing some calcs on income tax to tick over.

It all depends on the curve balls and the marks that could be dropped, fingers crossed not too many.

Sitting it in Chelmsford, I will keep an eye out for flash cards ?

Good luck all on the final few days until freedom from revising

I don’t know if this might help anyone – it works for me.

I try to create a ‘memory palace’ round a familiar room in a property I know (my home, former home, inlaws home) and then use that to ‘walk’ round rooms after placing things I want to remember around the room. Ideally, have the things or numbers as bizarre as possible, so they create a reaction.

So for instance I’ve done one for the criteria to have a power of attorney, and intend to do others for other areas where lists are needed.

Sorry if this has confused anyone rather than helped!

Ultimately, as has been said above, we need 55% or 88 marks plus to pass, which barring silly mistakes which I continue to make, should be possible. At least I’ve another few days to iron out the remaining bit of learning and to really nail the calcs (especially the quirky bits – charity donations for IHT, extending bands with pension contributions, etc).

    Best of luck everyone.

    Peter

    Morning all,

Just wondering if anyone has some good revision tips for the last few days? I am hovering around the 50% mark in past papers, which is worrying me!, but hopefully marking myself too strictly.

Just need to hope for a fair paper with as few curveballs as possible
